Client Overview

Formerly known as Bethpage Federal Credit Union, FourLeaf Federal Credit Union is the largest credit union in the Northeast and the 15th largest in the United States. The Sunnyside branch represents the organization’s strategic expansion into the diverse and vibrant Queens community.

Leadership sought a location that would support accessibility, walkability, and meaningful community engagement. After nearly a decade of evaluating opportunities, Sunnyside was selected as the credit union’s first Queens location — a milestone reflecting its commitment to delivering inclusive, community-focused financial services.

The Challenge

FourLeaf Federal Credit Union wanted to introduce a modern, highly efficient branch model while serving a growing urban population.

Key objectives included:

  • Launching their first in-line storefront branch in Queens
  • Implementing a cashless operating model
  • Providing 24/7 access for routine transactions
  • Maintaining a strong advisory presence for member relationships
  • Creating a community hub rather than a traditional teller-driven branch

The branch needed to balance automation with personalized service while fitting within a compact retail footprint.

The FSI Solution

FSI partnered with the credit union to deliver a cost-effective, scalable branch aligned with its forward-looking strategy.

  • A layout optimized for cashless operations and digital tools
  • Integration of Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs) in a secure vestibule accessible 24/7
  • Space planning to support advisory services and financial education
  • Full coordination from design through installation

The result is a streamlined branch that efficiently handles daily transactions while fostering deeper member engagement.

  • Patented tongue-and-groove installation system
  • Minimal on-site disruption (noise limited to drill and vacuum levels)
  • Custom branding integration
  • ADA and compliance considerations
  • Designed for relocation and reuse

Because the branch can be disassembled and reinstalled in a new location within weeks, the credit union’s capital investment is preserved for future growth.

The Results

FSI delivered a fully operational branch on an accelerated timeline.

  • Designed, permitted, manufactured, and installed in just nine months
  • Prefabricated components staged at FSI’s facility in Stockbridge, GA
  • Client walkthrough conducted prior to shipment to finalize details
  • Rapid installation at the Queens site
  • Immediate operational readiness upon turnover

This pre-staging process allowed the credit union to make last-minute adjustments — such as electrical placements, seating, and door configurations — before final installation.

The Sunnyside branch quickly demonstrated strong performance within the community.

The branch opened in September 2023, followed by a grand opening celebration on October 14, 2023.

Leadership — including CEO Linda Armyn and EVP & Chief Deposit Officer Emilio Cooper — has championed the modular branch strategy through multiple projects in New York and New Jersey, including locations in:

  • Ronkonkoma
  • Forest Hills
  • Jackson Heights
  • Cherry Hill, NJ

Additional branches in Little Neck and Fresh Meadows, NY are also underway.
